Artem Komarov noted that Mspraying is a process in which molten metal is deposited in a thin stream onto the surface of a base metal. The molten metal is completely bound to the surface of the workpiece in the form of a coating, Komarov Artem said.
History of metal spraying
The basic principles of metal spraying were first formulated by Dr. Ulrich Schoop around 1910, when he developed a nozzle that allowed an annular flame to heat powder particles as they were ejected to the surface. He then worked on using wire instead of powder, and this device became known as the wire plating gun. The term «metal spraying» refers to the application of a metallic coating to a base metal. Later, when it became possible to apply ceramic materials, a more general term was coined from this process, known as flame spraying.
Flame spraying is used to deposit both metallic and non-metallic materials using a combustion flame. With the advent of plasma generating devices and electric arc plants, flame spraying could no longer cover all types of spraying, and another term known as thermal spraying entered the picture.
Thermal spraying covers all deposition processes, such as metallization (or metal spraying), gas flame spraying, electric arc spraying, plasma spraying and detonation spraying, in which deposits are deposited under the action of a heat source and applied to the surface of the base metal using a fast-moving gas jet, Komarov emphasized Artem.
Classification of thermal spray method
The thermal spray process can be classified according to the use of heat sources such as:
- Flame atomization
- Arc spraying
- Plasma-arc spraying
- Spraying a detonation gun, etc.
This can be described according to the use of hardfacing materials in the form of powder spraying, as well as wire or rod spraying.
What is metal spraying?
This is a process in which molten metal is deposited as a fine spray onto the surface of a base metal. The molten metal is completely bonded to the workpiece surface in the form of a coating.
What is thermal spraying?
Thermal spraying is a process in which fine particles of molten/semi-molten metal, intermetallic metal oxide or plastic are applied to a workpiece to form an adhesive coating on a suitable substrate.
What is Flame Spray?
Flame deposition determines the deposition of both metallic and non-metallic materials using a combustion flame.
